Wounded Nature Missions
Wounded Nature–Working Veterans is making a significant impact on America's coastlines. From beach cleanups to derelict boat removal, our missions protect critical coastal wildlife habitats across South Carolina and beyond.
Beach, Tidal Marsh & Coastal Clean-ups
Our volunteers have filled numerous tractor-trailer-size dumpsters full of treated wood, tires, debris, and trash. Items such as orphan crab traps that have washed up into turtle and shorebird nesting areas have been dug up and repurposed. Plastic waste, previously thought to be indestructible, has since been found to break down within a year of it hitting the seawater.

Education & Outreach
Wounded Nature's publicity educates people about the need to keep our beaches, estuaries, and oceans clean. Our blogs, press releases, and media appearances repetitively stress these points. We bring awareness to critical issues including microplastics, derelict boats, treated lumber in marine environments, and the impact of everyday consumer choices on coastal wildlife.

Environmental Issues
Coastlines are treasured for their natural beauty, the recreational opportunities they offer, and the economic benefits that result from such coastal industries as tourism, shipping, and fishing. Trash and debris are a constant threat to our environment. We research and document issues including rubber tire microplastics, fiberglass boat pollution, creosote-treated wood, and the impact of abandoned boats on fish stocks.
Our Work — Past Accomplishments
We are trying to fix ocean trash and debris problems in critical wildlife habitats. Cleaning public beaches benefits the travel and tourism industry. Cleaning and helping to discard abandoned boats that litter our rural coastal areas benefits wildlife and the community. Since 2010 we have removed over 300 derelict vessels and conducted dozens of coastal cleanups across South Carolina and beyond.
